The race is all about the money

It seems that now that the race is kicking into high gear some of the candidates want to focus on who is "electible" and that means who can raise the most money these days. Unfortunately they also want us to ignore where that money comes from.

Candidate Raised On hand
L. Kissell $527,485 $351,835
Dan Barry $126,146 $78,706
R. Hudson $260,389

Some links with info on the current contenders

The GOP contenders started coming out of the woodworks and so far they've been civil to one another (the season is still young) but it looks like we might have some entertainment in this district once again.

Here's a rundown so far...

A question for Johnson, Kissell, and Hill

Here's a question I would like to ask at a debate to all three of the candidates:

Ben Bernanke recently said this:

The difference between Thomas Hill and Harold Johnson

There's an interesting set of questions on this questionnaire, but what's really interesting is how the Republican candidate (Johnson) responded compared to the Libertarian candidate (Hill).

Check out question #15 in particular.

15. Will you oppose federal power grabs like roving wiretaps and warrantless searches, and oppose Patriot Act renewal that includes such items? --- Johnson's response: Yes

A couple of bumper stickers seen recently in Concord

The GOP will most likely dismiss this, but that will be their mistake.

Kissell didn't beat Hayes with votes only from Democrats. The Independents and some Republicans voted for Kissell, and judging by these bumper stickers it looks like some Conservatives are not happy with the Republican candidate on the ballot for this November.

Meet all of the Republican candidates for the 8th district 4/22

Poll shows none of the Republican candidates reaching 40% (which means a runoff)

The Raleigh News and Observer reported on a poll paid for by Harold Johnson that showed none of the 8th district Republican candidates are polling near the magic 40% that is needed to avoid a runoff. Who would have thought that six candidates who are all so similar on the issues would split the vote up so much?

Is my Congressman (Kissell) "bought"?

Here's an issue that comes up during election time: Does the incumbent represent the people, or the special interest groups and PACs?

Somebody gathered data and put a site together that shows how often a member of Congress votes in the way the lobbyists for different sectors wants. Take a look at how the representatives from NC did.

Lee Cornelison added to the comparison of candidates

I added Lee Cornelison to the comparison of candidates tonight. He has entered the race for the Republican candidate with 5 other "fiscal conservatives" and at this point I'm still not sure if there's any major issue that differentiates any of them other than "character".

One thing I found interesting on his site was this: "Tax and spend politics must come to an end, as must the erosion of our constitutional rights by liberal judges."

Candidates reaction to the health care bill passing

Some of the candidates have weighed in on the historic event:
Tim D'Annunzio said "The Constitution Died".
Lou Huddleston says it's a "big government boondoggle".
Hal Jordan said it was "very disappointing".
